How important are cities to the United States as opposed to suburbs or rural areas?

To some extent, the history of civilization is the history of cities, the very Latin root of the word civilization tells us that.

What is Greek civilization without the city states.

And of the Roman Empire without Rome.

Napoleon without Paris.

Since cities are very liberal-oriented, do you think this a problem for conservatives in the future? How important are cities compared to suburbs or rural areas?
