How would Republicans feel about federal regulations on new cars?

So I am actually very conservative, but I have been thinking a lot lately about the future of transportation and I have come to the conclusion that we need a federally controlled system of communication between vehicles as they become more advanced.

While it may take years/decades, eventually most cars on the road will be capable of some level of self-driving like Teslas. However, AI only goes so far in preventing accidents. But if a vehicle was able to instantaneously tell the car behind it when it begins braking, it would be revolutionary and save countless lives. If a car knew exactly where each car on the road was, we could increase speed limits, cut down on traffic, and prevent accidents. I just can’t see private auto manufacturers collaborating on this, so that leaves it up to the federal government. Any thoughts on this?
